Are you brand-new to building Web pages? Then try GeoBuilder - it's the easiest
way yet to create your site on GeoCities. Just use your mouse to point and click,
drag and drop. It's that simple! Or use the Help Tutorials to learn how to build pages with the
other GeoCities HTML editors.

If you're pretty confident in your computer/Internet skills, the first
thing you'll want to do is log in to the GeoCities File Manager and edit
your index page with one of our five Page Editors. Presently your page
says something like "Hi, my name is Mary and I haven't moved in yet."
You MUST either upload a new index page (index.html) to your GeoCities
directory, or make a new index page within the next two weeks. Otherwise,
your site will be deleted due to inactivity.
To make a new index.html file:
1. Log into the File Manager.
2. At the bottom of the File Manager, choose an editor from the editor
choices.
3. Click on the "Create new html file" button.
4. You will be prompted to name the new file. Name it: index.html
5. Choose "Save" at the bottom of the page when you are done.
6. Hit the "Reload" button on your browser to see the new changes.
If you need more help, the GeoCities resource page is a list of GeoCities
help guides written entirely by members. It's a perfect example of how our
homesteaders help each other out, and it will surely answer many of your questions.
GeoCities always appreciates the opportunity to showcase great member home pages!

In a nutshell: no nudity or pornography, no outside sponsorship banners
or signposts. Geocities allows commercial pages only in the GeoShops. For
more info on GeoShops, please go here. Before you start your homepage, please be sure to read all of our
policies and page content guidelines here

Geocities really only require two things from its homesteaders:
1.) They ask that you place a customizable GeoGuide on top of your pages
or support the GeoPops Program. These forms of advertising make your
free pages possible. If you prefer the pop-ups, do nothing and they will
appear randomly. Or, if you would rather avoid banner advertising
altogether, you might want to take advantage of our premium service, the
GeoPlus Program, for only $4.95 per month.
Find out all about the GeoGuide here.
And get more info about GeoPlus here
2.) They also ask that you do not interfere with the transparent
Watermark on the corner of your GeoCities pages. The Watermark is
designed to increase your chances of being found by visitors. For
example, if you're on a great gardening page, clicking on the GeoCities
Watermark will take you to other great gardening pages. We think the
Watermark greatly improves our service to you, since it decreases the
amount of work it takes you to meet our content guidelines, and it will
bring more traffic to your site!
Again, welcome to the neighborhood!
